Accupressure is an ancient healing art developed in Asia over 5,000 years ago that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force energy to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses gentle but firm pressure.
Advantages of using acupressure include relieving pain, balancing the body and maintaining good health. The healing touch of acupressure reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply. By relieving stress, acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness.
Several kinds of acupressure are taught at the Institute all using the same ancient trigger points. Varying rhythms, pressures, and techniques create different styles of acupressure. Shiatsu, for instance, the most well-known style of acupressure, can be quite vigorous, with firm pressure applied to each point for only three to five seconds, while the Jin Shin style of acupressure gently holds each point for a minute or more. We teach a variety of bodywork styles along with massage on tables and floor mats
Chair Massage Schools
Chair Massage (or on-site or seated massage) refers to a brief bodywork session, usually acupressure-based, done in a special chair in which the client sits facing toward the cushions, exposing the scalp, shoulders, neck, arms, back, and hips. Sessions may last between five and thirty minutes. This style of bodywork was originally pioneered as "on-site massage" for the workplace by David Palmer, who developed the first specialized massage chair in 1986. Since then chair massage has expanded into storefronts, health food stores, airports, airplanes, health fairs, convention centers, sporting events, and other locations. Because clients remain fully clothed and a session takes less time (and money!) than full table massage, it has become a popular way to introduce the general public to the benefits of professional massage. |

Deep Tissue Massage Schools

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two |
Kinesiology Massage Schools
Kinesiology is a form of therapy that uses muscle testing (bio-feedback) to look at imbalances that may be causing disease in the body. Kinesiology is an art, a skill that takes a number of years of study and diligent practise to master. Its theory is partly based in the ancient Chinese acupuncture theory of chi energy. Kinesiology research shows that energy circuits or pathways, as well as the nervous system, link all the systems and tissues of the body. Particular muscles are shown to be connected to certain systems. A muscular change may represent an energy imbalance in the corresponding collection of organs and tissues, which may cause or contribute to disease and pain.
Practitioners can also identify food intolerances with Kinesiology techniques. By using various non-invasive techniques, energy blockages are removed and the body can restore its natural healing abilities in order to attain optimum health. |

Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts nearly 4,000 years old. In fact, Hippocrates, known as the "father of medicine," referenced massage when he wrote, in the 4 th century B.C.: "The physician must be acquainted with many things, and assuredly with rubbing ."
Now days, in addition to "rubbing," massage therapy, often referred to as bodywork or somatic therapy, refers to the application of various techniques to the muscular structure and soft tissues of the body that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, vibration, rocking, friction, kneading and compression using primarily the hands, although massage therapists do use other areas of the body, such as the forearms, elbows or feet. All of the techniques are used for the benefit of the musculoskeletal, circulatory-lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body. In fact, massage therapy positively influences the overall health and well-being of the client:

Currently, there are well over 100,000 massage therapists practicing in the United States alone. Training requirements vary from state to state, although an increasing number of schools and states recommend massage therapy programs of at least 500 hours training. As of March 2004, 33 states and the District of Columbia have official massage licensing regulations, and other states are pending. |
